Noel Witts - Professor of Performing Arts

Dragan Klaic

October 7, 2011

Sad to hear of Dragan’s death – one of the most interesting and combative theatre intellectuals I have known. I recorded a Cultural Conversation with him at Leeds Met a few years ago at which I remember the sheer range of knowledge and experience, and the humour behind it all. But my abiding memory of Dragan was his absolute outrage on the phone on being told that he’d been booked into an Ibis Hotel. “No, no, no, not the Ibis!” he shouted, ‘anywhere else as I cant stand them”. So  moved him to the Novotel and heard nothing more. Now when staying at an Ibis I’m woken by early morning revellers, I think of Dragan. Much missed by many of us.
